Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, dubbed ‘the gentle art,’ one of the most common martial arts taught. In martial arts there are two kinds of styles, striking (think karate or boxing) or grappling (think wrestling), jiu jitsu is almost exclusively a grappling style that focusses on ‘submissions’ or getting your opponent to tap out..

It’s a versatile martial arts that can be practiced anywhere. Because it focusses on control instead of strikes (punches and kicks) it’s not necessary to fight with padding. It’s advisable to have mats on the floor, but many find the grass good enough for a nice fight.

Those wanting to be fit, find friends, learn self defense, will all find that jiu jitsu can meet those goals. Just be careful to listen to your exercise partners, we’re here to learn, so ego’s must be let go of before more forceful measures are taken.
